Central Asia Orphans

The government orphanages of Central Asia are sad, difficult places for a child to grow up. The orphanages are severely under-funded, with the government allowing only 50¢ per day per child to cover all of the operational costs. Out of that small sum, the director must pay salaries, cover utilities and building maintenance costs, and then provide food and clothing for all of the children. In one location, 180 orphans are warehoused with 90 of them living in only one bedroom.

Streams of Mercy has launched a supplemental food and clothing project in this orphanage which is administered by volunteer staff in that region of the world. Through these volunteers, vegetables, meat and fruit are purchased for the orphans living in the home. Often, this is the only supplemental food that the children receive. Streams of Mercy greatly desires to expand the program to include other necessary supplies for these needy children.
